First Aid Kits for Babies

  • First aid manual to refresh your memory when an accident occurs
  • An age-appropriate painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
  • Plasters for cuts and small wounds
  • Sterile gauze dressings to keep a wound sterile and also provide cushioning and protection for the wound site
  • Adhesive tape to hold dressings in place
  • Antiseptic cream or spray to prevent infection (some also have a mild anaesthetic that relieves minor pain and soothes the skin during the healing process)
  • Antihistamine cream for bites and stings
  • Bandages to support limbs
  • ThermometerDigital (most accurate and used under the armpit) or Ear (fast result but more expensive and if not used correctly can be inaccurate). Do not use forehead strips as these only measure the temperature of the skin, not the body.
  • Calamine lotion for rashes (such as eczema and chickenpox) and sunburn
  • Pair of scissors for cutting clothes and cutting plasters and tape to size
  • Tweezers to remove thorns and splinters
  • Ice packs or gel packs which can be kept in the fridge, for bumps and bruises
  • Saline solution and an eye bath for removing foreign objects
  • Antiseptic wipes to clean the affected skin

Remember to keep your first aid box out of the reach of children but easily accessible to an adult in an emergency!
