We are please to announce that our Account Manager Alicia Savage has just given birth their beautiful baby girl Sophia at Frimley Park Hospital, weighing 5 lbs and 15 onzes. Her birth has reminded us of the last time a member of staff had a baby and was born with congential heart disease.

Congenital heart disease effects 3,000 babies born each year. Only 50% of these are detected prenatally and sadly 1,000 newborns each year in the UK leave hospital undetected.

Taking a new-born home for the first time can be very frightening, that new life so small and precious, it is helpful to know what to watch out for to recognise the signs that your baby maybe experiencing a congenital heart defect and what action to take.

CHD is the most common deadly congenital abnormality and responsible for 40% of all congenital abnormalities and accounts for 7.5% (1 IN 13) of infant deaths. But once detected the NHS has some of the world’s leading heart surgeons and doctors working from Great Ormond Street Hospital and other specialist Paediatric Hospitals throughout the county.

To spot the signs of CHD - think CARDIAC!

and if you are worried then speak to your midwife, doctor, or health visitor.
