Changes to the Resuscitation Guideline 2020

What are the predicted changes in the 2020 CPR Guidelines?

The new 2020 Resus Guidelines are still being evaluated, therefore the changes have not been published yet, however the new Guidelines for Resuscitation will identify high priority interventions to help maximise the chances of survival from cardiac arrest.

The European Resuscitation Council proposes to have a larger community involvement in the development of the 2020 Guidelines, which started by asking for views from the community on the extent of the guidelines.

The predicted changes for the 2020 Resuscitation Guidelines, based on the recent revisions of the Resus Guidelines, have been identified as; the importance of encouraging the bystander to administer CPR, creating more of an emphasis on the importance of quality chest compression, and simplifying CPR training, giving bystanders the courage and confidence to attempt hands only CPR. This is also inline with the national ambulance guidelines which only give quality chest compression instructions in an adult cardiac arrest, currently on first aid courses we still teach mouth to mouth at a rate of 30 chest compressions to 2 breathes.

Further changes are expected to be made to the Resuscitation Guidelines when the new guidelines are released in October 2020.
