Surrey First Aid Training Ltd - Specialists in First Aid Courses since 2000

An increase in anxiety over how workplaces will remain safe has been a leading cause of increase mental health cases. Many workplaces are adapting well to the government guidelines, but as more people return to the office and the threat of a second wave of virus, employers should could consider the mental wellbeing of their employees as well as the physical wellbeing.

Five Steps to Improve Organisational Mental Health:

  1. Be Proactive: Give employees/members access to a mental health fitness program that raises awareness so they can better understand and manage their mental health.
  2. Offer Mental Health Benefits: Provide confidential screening and counselling services with emotional support and treatment options.
  3. Promote Good Mental Health: Encourage employees to take advantage of available mental health benefits by reducing the stigma of mental illness through education and information.
  4. Recognise Warning Signs: Train managers to recognize the signs of mental health conditions and to support struggling employees.
  5. Create A Mental Health Policy: Establish an organisational policy that recognizes the importance of the mental well-being of its workforce and solidifies investment in mental health resources.

Now more than ever, the importance of good awareness of recognising when someones mental health is deteriorating and finding ways to adapt the workplace and support this person should be the focus of employers return to work policies.
