Safer Handling Training

Why is safer handling important?

Poor lifting technique is the largest cause of workplace injury. Back injuries account for a large number of workplace injuries and 80% will suffer from mild to severe back pain at some stage. 20% is caused by incorrect lifting and posture.

Due to the amount of compensation being claimed by employees who were injured whilst working the Health and Safety Executive put in to place the Manual Handling  Operation Regulation (1992).

Who needs it?

This regulation applies to anyone doing any lifting or moving. This includes:

People on farms- building sites, offices, banks, warehouses, retail, hospitals and even child day care centres.

The Regulations require employers to
:

Avoid
the need for hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable
Assess the risk of injury from any hazardous manual handling that can’t be avoided
Reduce the risk of injury from hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable

Our course gives employers and employees the understanding, training and skill to comply with the MHOR (1992) regulation. The course detail describes the legislation and what it involves. Students then study the anatomy of the back so that delegates may better understand how the back works and how to lift to prevent injury.

The course is presented through hands on training, using practical learning and powerpoint and video.

At the end of the course the students will be awarded a Manual Handling Training certificate valid for 3 years.
